Main menu

Main menu is on the top of the main window of the application and contains submenus which include menu items (commands). When you choose menu item, appropriate function of the application is called. Each menu command can have associated shortcut – combination of keys, activating the same function.

Toolbars

Toolbars are designed for fast access to main functions of the application. When you press toolbar buttons, linked functions are executed. Toolbar buttons of the main window correspond to appropriate commands of the main menu of the application. Toolbar buttons can have some icon explaining its purpose. Besides that, you can get additional tip, holding mouse pointer above the button for short time.

Status bar

Status bar is at the bottom of the window. You can see it both in the main window of the application and in dialogs. Status bar can consist of several sections displaying some portion of the information.

Dialogs

Dialog boxes are the base of the user interface of any application.

Any dialog box has a caption explaining its purpose and buttons to minimize, maximize and close the dialog (in some dialogs first two buttons can be absent). The majority of the dialogs are sizeable. Just drag the bottom-right corner of the window (when you bring the mouse to a required place, its cursor changes accordingly). If you don’t understand purpose of the dialog or its controls, use help system. To show help topic, appropriate to the dialog box, press F1 key or Help button of the dialog box.

There are standard buttons at the bottom of the dialog. To confirm changes and close the dialog, click OK. To close the dialog without confirmation of changes, press Cancel button or X button in the right part of the dialog caption.

Lists

Lists are designed for grouping of objects.

Each object corresponds to some list item. Property values of objects are displayed in separate list column. Current (selected) list item is the item for processing. It has special color. To select some item, use Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys or click it by the mouse.

Each column of the list has a caption on the top explaining purpose of this field. Click the column caption to sort the list on ascending order, click it once again to sort the list on descending. To change the column width, place mouse pointer on the caption boundary of appropriate columns (the cursor changes). Then press left mouse button and holding it, move the mouse in a required direction up to the column width you need. To change the column order, click (press left mouse button) on its caption and holding it, move the mouse in a required direction up to the column order you need.

To manage the list, use appropriate toolbar buttons or items of the context menu of the list.
